Wow!! your Supermas sound really working, man. Today morning I was going to check whether all speaker are working well, the time I walk in the entrance with light, Wow!! so many swiftlet that I never have before, round 80 of them flying around the main hall , I was so shock and happy after I saw so many bird shit on the floor. Please recommend few more good sound that I must have.

swiftlet farming starter guide

Swiftlet farming starter guide.
I came up with a easy guide here because last week some one(Mr Tan) from Senai asking me to visit his newly build birdhouse and after setting up the sound system and he really dont know what to do following. He told me he was so eager and rushing to build him a dream bird house after attempt of few seminar. Can you give me some guide? I really dont know what to do beside waiting.

Easy Starter Guide 

1. getting swiftlet to come to your bird house.
2. getting more swiftlet to come to your bird house.
3. getting more more swiftlet to come to your bird house.

He then reply " I also know lah but how?"
The main thing of getting the swiftlet to come and enter and stay inside and build their nest inside our birdhouse.

Sound

• Using the bird call sound to attract those wild swiftlet to come inside the bird house.
• Using Aroma . can be inside , near nesting plank or some at entrance hole.
• Using Fake nest. Can be Paper made, ready made, or styrofoam ( not prefer-)
• Some other optional are running water inside and insect  at the entrance hole or roving area.
• Build a VIP room ect.....

Playing the sound (external sound, pulling sound, internal sound, colony sound ) to attract the birds.
What type of sound and when we play it.
Internal Sound : 
setting A) only baby bird sound to be play 24hours.
setting B) Mix of baby bird and young bird to be play 24hours.
setting C) spot colony sound, spread baby bird sound, spot external sound.
setting D) .......

External Sound :
setting A) only external sound mix with some baby bird sound and adult bird and mating sound.
setting B) Hexagonal or bazooka speaker attracting far distance bird, surrounding colony sound, 2 speaker playing internal sound at the entrance hole, 4 high efficient speaker playing attract sound at entrance hole.
setting C) ......

external sound should be play from early morning when the bird are ready to fly out from the bird house and searching for food(5am - 9am). And stop when all the bird are returning home(5pm - 9pm), the time will varies by the season and location and country, estimate an hour after sky getting dark. some people prefer play extra hour as long as not disturbing your neighbours and getting complain.

what type of external sound on what season of the year.
1) mating sound
2) female sound calling for mating.
3) nesting sound.
4) feeding sound.

According to info, the best time to attract swiftlet are at the rainy season and dry season. Which falls at the end of year normally will start raining until round february  and dry season at middle of year start from Jun to August. This is because of available in lot of foods (insect) for the bird trigger by rain, normally by this season we will see a lot of flies insect at those street light at night. The swiftlet will start reproduction process where they have enough of food to supplies for the body to process salivary for building the nest. According to info: the base of the nest are build by male swiftlet and the top and outer round shape are build by female swiftlet.

This are all just some reference , may not be accurate in application as we all know our earth are getting sick and the climate had changed, global warming, pollution , temperature changes had resulting the whole process in the swiftlet world to changes as well dramatically as I received a lot of unexplainable fenomenon which happen around us. One of them are all swiftlet are seem to be disappear back few month and the laying egg process had getting delay. I had received a lot of question asking my opinion of why their bird are getting less in number, they dont see that much bird anymore comparing last year.

The best way to overcome this nature changes are by carefully observing the birds behavior, the surrounding and make any necessary change if there a need.

Monitoring and control the temperature and humidity of the bird house to where its best suite for the swiftlet nature habitat. By using temperature and humid logger and hygro temp gadget and humidifier machine.

Keep the predator away such as owl, ant, cockroach, rats and gecko. By applying those insect powder(economy way-made in china) or buying those expensive liquid insect killer. But never the bygond or reedsect which smell so awful and until your birds run away.

How about its Mr Tan, there is more.....

Visiting Permas Bird House

Few days ago, received a call asking " Hi, are you free, can you come over to my bird house." I ask him why, is there anything I can do to help! I would love to visit your bird house. So I went over. This bird house got alot problem from what I observed. The wall are directly facing sun light, no isolation of any kind, you can feel heat if you place your hand on the wall. The sound system are weird and not functioning well. according to owner, sometime does not produce sound but he tend to do nothing to it since the system still working but the sound are not even, some loud and some like almost no sound on the internal speaker. I also spot an area of which the whole wood plank are attack by white ant. I told him ; " your bird house are really sick" I explain to him all the problem and symptom sickness. he is not happy with the word and reply " I will sale away if the situation go worse". I didnt say much more and atleast I can do one test for him that is the temperature and humidity log of the day. the result came out thats the condition of temp and humid are still not bad at all but still this is end of the year-rainy season. What happen in the hot-dry season, july.

I told the owner the reading of temp and humid barely pass the minimal requirement 28.5C to 29.5C. humid are 80% to 85% , and if he still doing nothing to improve the situation, by the upcoming of hot season. your bird will run away and go to other comfort house. he say no problem, the temperature can be control by running those copping humidifier. I told him that by reading on the temperature logger, even you run the humidifier for whole day, it wont do any good because the temperature does not drop a bit by the time you run the humidifier.( see the graph). Last thing I ask the owner, if there are 2 shopping center, 1 with cooler aircond and another one with no aircond, which one will you go?

I notice this bird house in the same area. the entrance hole are super large and got plant next to the entrance, very rare. Do you think is there a need of open the entrance hole until this large? I think all the predator and burglars will love it.Haha!

Klang port Pulau indah birdcall test

Last week, a friend call me and ask whether I want to help him convert his own shoplot into swiftlethouse. I say if you really want to, I am ok. So , he invite me to take a look on the place first. after long hour of driving finally we arrive at the klang west port pulau indah. Oh my god, the first impression was the place are really run down and almost like a rubbish park. But still, there s wild foreigner staying in this wasted shop lot, full of rubbish and smell so awful until you dont want to stay for another minute. but no matter what I still carefully check the place and surrounding hopefully still potentially inhabits swiftlet.

  I notice there already been few birdhouse playing crazy loud sound. During my test call at 3pm, only 1 bird fly over. Maybe still early, so we drove to klang town to have some meal first. Of cause Klang town are crazy full of birdhouse. After back to the same location at 6pm, I test again the sound and about 10 bird fly around. Total disappoint so I count how many bird entering these birdhouse after 7pm and there s none entering the crazy loud play sound one. Another one with extend Monyet are having 50 birds but the structure are very silly.  The entrance hole are directly near to the roof and this is no good practice cause all those owe and rate are more easily enter the birdhouse. And why those barbed wire need to put on the speaker? maybe this area those foreigner like to steal speaker, only my wild guess. Haha!

Some say this island are best for swiftlet farming as there s surrounding swampy mangrove where abundance of food available for the swiftlet. A larger island of swampy mangrove are locate further front shore after the port (pulau klang).  Some future project of pulau indah are like cruise terminal and such  D tiara water front resort.

 

Some even say this area are territory to india gangster, where they are ready to collect security fees. of cause this are just rumours

But during the bird call test, few india guy walk toward our car and really want to do something to us but luckily nothing happen. But still there s more then 0ver 10 of them keep watching us. After the bird count, I say we quickly cabut.

 I really dont like this place that much furthermore the
testcall are really a failed. Security is another big problem as this place are really like foreigner kingdom.(bangladesh, india) not to mention about over 10 wild dog running around. Our sound system can be their first target.

All the noise can be another problem, those lorry, port, cargo ship and pollution worry me, although people never care about these things.

But, if the owner decide to go, I will fulfill his wishes.



On the way back we drop by seremban enter labu from the highway until reach the first shoplot turn right. We have a wonderfull crabs meal, I can say these crabs are the best in whole malaysia that I ever tasted before. (seremban 烧蟹). For your info. the restorant are infront of the very famouse pup center in seremban.

what type of tweeter should use for playing swiftlet sound

Some one call me few days ago asking what type of tweeter should be use in swiftlet farming. I told him I cant give him a direct answer because different people have different opinion and favour of brand and design. I not dare to claim which good which bad but I can give you some guide where most people will follow.

Never use cheapest one, think of the long working hour of the tweeter none stop from days to night, month to years, there can be big problem if some of the tweeter spoiled and causing the whole sound system break down.

By analyze the sound characteristic of the tweeter and choosing the right one for the right sound are very important. Adult bird sound are more wider compare baby sound. For external entrance hole speaker, you better use those highest quality you can get like motorola brand.

He ask me how to analyze the tweeter? I told him to bring down the tweeter and I will analyze for you. He strait away drive to my place and I analyze for him later we go for coffee at oldtown cafe, before he left he was so happy and thankful with the knowledge and cant wait for next time coffee again.(I think he will bring more speaker to test later on)

Some people told me not to use those tweeter with extra highs frequency as it can draw unwanted bats because bats communicate in the higher frequency range. Remember few months ago visiting a bh near pontian, the owner ask me why bats start staying in his bh half year ago and he have no way to get the bats out( he sound so sad). I ask him what you did half year ago inside bh, did you change the sound or the speaker, then he suddenly realize -oh ya, the bats start came after I add those new speaker (he said), after I explain to him and he start to remove all those add speaker, actually he does not fully understand or believe what I told him .even using unsuitable sound can draw bats. After 10 days later he call me up and good news are all those bats are gone, Thanks!
